An Additional Sessions Judge, P.P. Patel, has sentenced an accused to seven years of imprisonment for causing the death of a companion during a quarrel regarding the presence of ants in flour in the Sheherkotda police station area of Ahmedabad. The court found Dineshkumar Ramlal Yadav guilty under the charge of culpable homicide.
According to a report by Sandesh, the incident occurred on the night of 28-2-2023 in a shed of Amar Estate. An altercation and quarrel broke out between Dineshkumar Yadav and Ramsajivan Chauhan regarding ants entering the ration flour. Provoked by the dispute, the accused struck Ramsajivan on the head with iron pliers. Due to severe injuries, he passed away on 2-3-2023 during treatment.
Government Prosecutor Dhaval Mehta submitted to the court, based on witnesses and documents, that a murder was committed over a trivial matter, and therefore the accused should receive the maximum sentence to set an example in society. However, the court observed that while the accused should have known that striking a vital part like the head with a tool such as pliers could cause death, the case falls under the ambit of culpable homicide rather than murder.
Sheherkotda police had registered a case in this matter and arrested the accused. The court ultimately sentenced the accused to seven years of imprisonment.
