President Droupadi Murmu attends the martyrdom centenary celebration of Swami Shraddhanand

President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu attended the martyrdom centenary celebration of Swami Shraddhanand at Gurukul in Kurukshetra, Haryana, on November 1, 2026. According to a PIB Delhi report, on this occasion, the President paid tribute to Swami Shraddhanand in memory of the 100th year of his sacrifice.

In her address, the President stated that his life journey from Munshiram to Mahatma Munshiram and subsequently becoming Swami Shraddhanand is extremely inspiring. She added that Swami Shraddhanand had dedicated his life to the service of the Vedas and the upliftment of society. His life journey and sacrifice are a source of inspiration for all of us.

Swami Shraddhanand was a strong proponent of social unity, the President said. He expressed his views from the stage of Delhi's Jama Masjid and gave a message of mutual goodwill and national unity. According to the President, Swami Shraddhanand believed that to achieve India's progress, it is most essential to remove the stigma of untouchability and uplift the Dalits. In his view, evil practices like untouchability were against the core spirit of Vedic religion.

Swami Shraddhanand revived and strengthened the Gurukul education system, which gave a new lease of life to Indian education and culture. He made relentless efforts to revive the ancient Aryan education system propounded by Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj.

Furthermore, the President stated that we are moving towards achieving the goal of a developed India by the year 2047. Therefore, it becomes extremely important for Indians to embrace modern knowledge-science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship while feeling proud of the country's rich cultural heritage. She expressed confidence that taking inspiration from the life of Swami Shraddhanand, the youth of the country will contribute to building an educated, self-reliant, harmonious, and empowered India.
