According to a report by Sandesh, the Government of Gujarat has allocated a grant of ₹17 crore for setting up a 'Climate Change Impact and Awareness Centre' at Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) in Vadodara. Out of all the state's universities and research institutes, MSU's proposal on climate change science and infrastructure was selected as the best. For this project, a multi-disciplinary team of experts from the Faculty of Technology, Botany, Zoology, and Computer Science departments made a presentation before the Education Minister in Gandhinagar.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhalchandra Bhaitege stated that the main objective of this project is to reach ordinary citizens and students instead of limiting it to researchers only. This centre will be constructed at the Donors Plaza located on the university campus, which will be developed as a 'Live Experience Museum' like a Science Park or Science City. In this museum, it will be explained through interactive games how daily activities, such as sending messages or posting reels, generate carbon footprints through satellites and data towers.
Registrar Dr. K.M. Chudasma added that this centre will also create awareness regarding environmental damage caused by plastic waste, which includes matters like pieces of small plastic milk pouches. This project will work as a model for environmental awareness and climate action in Gujarat.
