Charge sheet of 1 lakh pages filed in Vartej liquor tragedy case involving 14 deaths

On August 18, 14 innocent citizens died due to the consumption of poisonous liquor in the Vartej area of Bhavnagar district. In this serious liquor tragedy case, the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) has submitted a detailed charge sheet of 1 lakh pages in the local court.

According to a report by Sandesh, a total of 42 accused, including a police employee, have been arrested in this complex case. About 10 other accused involved in this criminal conspiracy are currently absconding, who have been declared wanted and police are conducting operations to find them. Separate teams have been formed to intensify the investigation to nab the absconding accused.

The SMC has prepared this massive charge sheet with the aim of ensuring strict punishment for the culprits. These documents include a money trail showing suspicious financial transactions between the accused, CCTV footage obtained from the scene and various routes, Call Detail Records (CDR) of the accused's conversations, and important technical evidence from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). These scientific proofs will form the basis of the legal investigation of the case.

During the investigation, the SMC also exposed an interstate chain supplying lethal methanol chemical. While cracking down on the business of bringing chemicals from other states and distributing them illegally at the local level, the investigation team seized material worth ₹22 lakh.

Following this incident, there was widespread shock throughout the region. The investigating agency has collected accurate evidence against all arrested accused to strengthen the legal grip and has moved the court proceedings forward by filing the charge sheet in court in a timely manner.
