A major controversy has erupted over an old statement made by All India Students' Association (AISA) President Neha Bora. According to reports by TV9 Gujarati and Sandesh, a video of Neha Bora has gone viral in which she claims that priests in temples commit rape and that Brahmin women are not safe there. Heavy outrage is being witnessed in the Hindu religion and the Brahmin community against this statement.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari shared this video on the social media platform X, leveling serious allegations against Neha Bora for insulting Hinduism and religious traditions. Describing Neha Bora as the 'poster girl' of Rahul Gandhi, Bhandari stated that she is displaying hatred towards Hindus. Linking this statement to a previous remark by Rahul Gandhi, he noted that Rahul Gandhi had also said that harassment of young women occurs in temples. Pradeep Bhandari further alleged that the Congress is engaging in vote-bank politics and that their ideology is dangerous for India's unity.
On the other hand, BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia strongly criticized the statement in Delhi. Bhatia claimed that Neha Bora has drawn inspiration from the power shift in Bangladesh, where Hindu women were subjected to atrocities and Hindus were killed. He said that Neha Bora's statement has insulted all priests, whereas history is witness that Hindus have always remained tolerant and have contributed to social service. Bhatia raised the question that if there is any basis for this statement, would Neha Bora make similar comments about madrasas and Maulvis? He termed this kind of selective opposition as dangerous.
Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Ray has also deemed the statement inappropriate. He stated that such comments should not be made about people of any caste, community, religion, or region, as every religion has both good and bad people. However, Ray also added that the BJP wants such controversies to arise, so one should not fall into their trap. Nevertheless, he clarified that the kind of rhetoric being used in current times is unacceptable.
There is also intense resentment in the Brahmin community regarding this statement. Reacting on social media and YouTube, Dr. Ashwin Trivedi, State President of Samast Gujarat Brahm Samaj, said that it is not appropriate to target the entire community. He stated that the entire community does not become defamed because one individual becomes a criminal. Dr. Trivedi added that maintaining the dignity of women is the culture, values, and tradition of the Brahmin community. He said that if any priest is involved in such an unspeakable incident, the Brahm Samaj does not support it and such an incident should be investigated. He strongly condemned Neha Bora's false statements.
It is noteworthy that Neha Bora had previously come into the spotlight after joining protests conducted by CJP regarding the paper leak issue and participating in Rahul Gandhi's rally.
