The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) has taken a new initiative to strengthen climate education. The TGCHE announced on Thursday that a special B.A. programme based on 'Climate Change, Sustainability and Environmental Governance' will be introduced from the next academic year.
This significant announcement was made by V. Balakista Reddy, Chairman of TGCHE. He shared details about this new educational scheme while inaugurating the 6th edition of the 'Conference of People for Climate Action', organised by the TGCHE and the Council of Green Revolution.
Mr. Reddy highlighted the increasing severity of current issues such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, water scarcity, and pollution. He emphasised that it is necessary to shoulder environmental responsibility collectively and that adopting sustainable practices is inevitable.
According to a report by The Hindu, this will be an interdisciplinary programme. Through this curriculum, students will be provided with deep knowledge and practical skills regarding climate science, environmental policies, management of natural resources, environmental laws, and governance, enabling them to face future environmental challenges.
