The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has achieved a significant victory in the ZPTC elections held in the Saluru assembly constituency of Andhra Pradesh's Parvathipuram-Manyam district. This constituency is represented by Tribal Welfare Minister Gummadi Sandhya Rani. YSRCP has captured both the Saluru and Makkuva ZPTC seats.
A very thrilling contest was witnessed in the Saluru seat. YSRCP candidate Dandi Ananthkumari secured 14,335 votes, while TDP candidate Appikonda Ramadevi received 14,270 votes. Due to a narrow margin of only 65 votes between the two candidates, TDP agents demanded a recount. However, even after the recount, the YSRCP candidate's votes remained the same, and they were declared the winner.
On the other hand, in the Makkuva assembly constituency, YSRCP candidate Marri Paramma defeated her closest rival, S. Sitamma of the TDP, by a margin of 701 votes. With this victory, YSRCP has strengthened its hold in this region.
Following the election results, former Deputy Chief Minister PDK Rajanna Dora congratulated the newly elected ZPTC and MPTC members. He expressed confidence that YSRCP would become more powerful by the 2029 assembly elections. He noted that YSRCP had fought a tough battle in Parvathipuram-Manyam district and won several ZPTC and MPTC seats.
According to a report by The Hindu, YSRCP had also won 13 out of 32 wards in the previously held Saluru municipal elections. In that election, TDP was limited to 11 wards and JSP to 4 seats. However, in the municipal elections, JSP's chairman candidate Gorle Vijaya Kumari had defeated YSRCP candidate Ribka Rani by a narrow margin.
