Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai launched a scathing attack on the Congress during a press conference in Surat on Thursday. He alleged that the Congress is conspiring to establish a puppet government in India similar to that of Bangladesh and is working at the behest of foreign powers to destabilize the country. Rai further stated that India will not repeat the mistakes of the 1947 partition.
Speaking on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter lists, the Minister said that opposition parties rely on infiltrators and bogus voters to win elections. He claimed that following a legal process, approximately 13 crore entries have been removed from voter lists across the country. This includes 6.3 crore migrated voters, 3 crore absent voters, 2.8 crore deceased persons, and 1 crore duplicate entries as well as alleged foreign infiltrators.
Nityanand Rai questioned the Congress whether the party intends to win elections with the support of these 13 crore entries. He added that the removal of bogus entries has corrected long-standing irregularities and strengthened the electoral process. He pointed out that such revision processes have been carried out 12 times in India's history, 10 of which took place during the Congress regime.
The Minister stated that the Election Commission followed established procedures, such as issuing notices, conducting investigations, and providing affected individuals an opportunity to present their case. Referring to a statement by senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal, he noted that Sibal himself had described this process as routine, yet the opposition is politicising the matter. Rai alleged that the Congress is creating a 'mock parliament' by avoiding discussions on national interests and the welfare of the poor in Parliament.
He further stated that the Congress has suffered 56 defeats in Assembly elections since 2014, but instead of introspection or reform, the party has attempted to gain power by taking advantage of illegal infiltrators. He asserted that India's youth have a right to employment and national resources, and neither the BJP nor the country will ever tolerate foreign infiltrators.
Attacking the opposition, Rai said that the Congress questions electoral institutions after losing elections, but accepts the reliability of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) when it wins. Highlighting the achievements of the Modi government, he claimed that 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty and middlemen have been eliminated through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). He stated that the Congress cannot tolerate the country's progress due to its dynastic politics and corruption.
Referring to the vision of Swami Vivekananda, he said that the 21st century will belong to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fulfilling that vision through his leadership. Rai expressed confidence that through the collective efforts of farmers, labourers, youth, and women, India will become a developed nation by 2047 and attempts to weaken the country will fail. According to DeshGujarat, the Minister emphasized all these points.
