The Adilabad district police have dismantled an interstate gang involved in defrauding farmers. This gang was targeting farmers who were facing difficulties in paying tractor finance instalments. In this case, the police have arrested the main accused, Yogesh Patil, a resident of Amravati, Maharashtra, along with four local agents. According to reports received by the police, the estimated value of the 6 seized tractors is ₹40 lakh.
According to a report by The Hindu, Adilabad district Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhil Mahajan, while speaking to the media on Sunday, stated that the arrested agents include K. Shyam Rao, V. Keshav, and Pitambar of Inderveli Mandal, and Ambar Rao of Narsapur in Utnoor Mandal. Sohail Rehan and Asif from Maharashtra were also involved in this gang.
Explaining the modus operandi of this crime, the SP stated that this gang was targeting tractor owners in Adilabad district who had outstanding finance instalments on their tractors. The accused would promise to pay the farmers' pending instalments and subsequently take the tractors away under the pretext of taking them on lease. Once they obtained the tractors, they would illegally transport them to Maharashtra.
The police have apprehended the members of this interstate gang and have also seized the tractors recovered from them. Economically weaker farmers were being cheated by this gang through various inducements.
