A female conductor has died 10 days after being pushed out of a bus in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana. 24-year-old Gundla Pravallika, who was serving in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), breathed her last on Tuesday night due to fatal injuries. The incident occurred on 25 October near Mitagudem during a dispute with a passenger regarding ticket change.
According to an NDTV report, Pravallika was attached to the Manguru RTC depot and was a resident of Adarsh Nagar in Manguru city. On 25 October, she was travelling in a Palle Velu bus from Manguru to Bhadrachalam. The tragic incident took place near Mitagudem in Asavapuram mandal. According to officials, a local resident named Banoth Maunika had boarded the bus with her son and had given Pravallika a ₹100 note for her son's ticket.
The conductor issued a ₹10 ticket, but due to a shortage of change, she noted the remaining ₹90 on the ticket and asked the passenger to collect it later. When the bus reached Maunika's stop, she demanded the balance, leading to an escalation of the dispute. During this, it is alleged that Maunika pushed Pravallika out of the moving bus door. Due to the push, the conductor fell onto the road and the rear wheels of the bus ran over her legs, causing severe injuries.
Due to the injuries, Pravallika was first taken to a hospital in Bhadrachalam and subsequently moved to a private hospital in Hyderabad for better treatment. After undergoing treatment for ten days, she passed away on Tuesday night. Asavapuram police have registered a case in this matter, arrested the accused Maunika, and produced her in court.
State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar reacted to the incident. While Pravallika was undergoing treatment, he had condemned the attack. Following the conductor's death, the Minister has assured that the government will stand with RTC employees. He has directed officials to take strict legal action against those who attack staff while on duty.
Announcing on Wednesday, the Minister stated, "The government is with the family of Manguru depot conductor Pravallika. Pravallika's mother will be provided with a job. The family will be allotted an Indiramma House. A compensation of ₹10 lakh will be provided to Pravallika's family from the Government and RTC. We will support Pravallika's family in every possible way." He requested passengers to lodge their complaints through official channels instead of resorting to violence.
Following the news of the conductor's death, intense anger has been observed among RTC employees and unions.
Gundla Pravallika was serving as a conductor at the Manguru RTC depot. She resided in the Adarsh Nagar area of Manguru and worked under the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation.
