According to a PTI report and a statement from the Finance Ministry, Indian travellers visiting Dubai and Singapore will now be able to pay for online tickets using India's Unified Payments Interface, i.e., the UPI method. The Finance Ministry recently announced that this facility has been made available for the Burj Khalifa as well as attractions in Singapore, including Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, and Adventure Cove Waterpark.
Citing the Finance Ministry's statement, PTI reported that the primary objective of this initiative is to simplify international travel bookings for Indians, allowing them to use their preferred UPI applications for online payments at these locations.
UPI payments for online bookings have been enabled through partnerships announced by NPCI International Payments Limited, the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India, in the UAE on 29 July and in Singapore on 9 September.
In the UAE, UPI acceptance has been enabled for Burj Khalifa's ‘At The Top’ in collaboration with NeoPay and Emaar Entertainment. The statement noted that this is the first tourism destination to implement UPI for e-commerce in the United Arab Emirates.
In Singapore, UPI payments have been introduced at Resorts World Sentosa through a partnership with payment institution FOMO Pay. This facility covers bookings for major attractions at Resorts World Sentosa, such as Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, and Adventure Cove Waterpark.
The rollout of UPI facilities comes amidst the growing demand for secure and convenient international payments. The statement also noted that Singapore received 12 lakh visitors from India in 2025. It added that this initiative strengthens India's digital and economic ties with the UAE and Singapore and supports cooperation in payment technology and cross-border trade.
According to the PTI report, UPI was introduced for Eiffel Tower ticket bookings in France on 26 January 2024. Currently, Indian travellers can use UPI in 10 countries, including Singapore, UAE, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Greece.
As per the statement, following a commercial agreement announced on 30 August 2026 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, Uzbekistan is expected to join this list as the 11th country.
