According to a report by Amar Ujala, cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally, claiming the lives of millions of people every year. According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer causes nearly 10 million, i.e., one crore deaths every year, and over two crore new cases emerge annually. Health experts are warning everyone about the risks of cancer. Whether it is women, men, or even children, the risk of various types of cancer is seen to be increasing.
When it comes to cancer in women, experts advise everyone to remain more vigilant. Breast and cervical cancer cases have been reported the most among women. Health experts say that the biggest concern regarding cancer is that in most cases it cannot be diagnosed in its early stages. Generally, cancer is detected when the disease has progressed significantly. AI chatbots can prove to be very helpful in reducing such risks.
Recently, a team of experts has launched a new AI chatbot, and it is being claimed that it can help in diagnosing cancer by observing symptoms in women within minutes. An investigation conducted in Britain revealed that all popular AI tools so far are failing to recognize many important symptoms related to women's cancer. In fact, in one case, a warning sign of ovarian cancer was dismissed as a common stomach problem by AI.
Such mistakes can pose a threat to women's lives. Keeping this problem in mind, Britain's leading women's cancer charity 'The Eve Appeal' has launched its new AI chatbot 'Ask Eve Assist'. It is being claimed that it will help in identifying signs of five types of women-related cancers within minutes and, if necessary, connecting them to an expert in a timely manner.
This tool analyzes women's symptoms and states whether they are at risk of uterine, ovarian, cervical, vulvar, or vaginal cancer. Notably, last year The Eve Appeal investigated Google's AI Overview feature. This feature collects information from different websites and shows its summary upon searching on Google. The charity found in its investigation that this feature provided completely incorrect information regarding cervical screening.
Seeing these shortcomings, the charity has now launched its own AI tool, Ask Eve Assist. This is also based on AI technology, but verified and reliable information with the help of experts has been used in preparing it. Its objective is to provide correct health-related advice to women and save them from getting misled by incomplete or incorrect information present on the internet.
Helen Hindman, lead nurse at the charity, says that as a nurse, amid the increasing demand for AI, the most difficult thing was to understand that many people needed much more help than general advice, but we did not have the resources to give them enough time. The new chatbot will help us reduce this pressure. It can safely answer general questions. Because of this, we are able to give more time to those women who need expert care.
According to the charity, this new AI tool has been prepared on the basis of verified information available on its official website. Before its launch, 359 people used and tested it. One in every 20 people who used the tool needed further help from expert nurses. In such cases, they were advised to contact the nurses.
Experts stated that women can use this AI tool by visiting the official website of The Eve Appeal. It can be used by going to the 'Ask Question' section. Gemma Wilson, who has battled uterine cancer and has already used the Ask Eve service, says that if this tool had been available at the time my cancer was detected, it would have proved to be very helpful for me.
