14-year-old teenager charged for setting motorhome on fire

A 14-year-old teenager has been arrested and charged by the police in connection with an incident involving the setting of a motorhome on fire in the Wallsend area of Newcastle. According to a report by ABC News, the motorhome was deliberately set ablaze in the early hours of 29 October, resulting in serious injuries to a person residing inside.

Police have charged the 14-year-old from Wallsend with causing damage to property worth more than ₹15,000 by fire or explosives and causing serious bodily harm by negligence. The teenager appeared in Children's Court today, where the court denied him bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again next Friday.

Eyewitnesses stated that at the time of the incident, they heard loud bangs and explosions before the motorhome suddenly turned into a ball of fire. Fire and Rescue NSW stated in a release that there were reports of gas cylinders being involved in the fire. The police treated the fire as suspicious, and forensic officers declared the motorhome a crime scene.

A 69-year-old resident sustained serious burns in the incident. According to local residents, the individual was of a calm nature but was going through difficult times. One resident mentioned that complaints had been made to the Council regarding the parking of motorhomes on local roads.

Following the fire, a resident showed bravery by pulling the elderly man out of the burning vehicle and rescuing him to safety. After receiving primary treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics, he was taken to John Hunter Hospital and subsequently transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment there in serious condition. Police have praised the local people who assisted in the incident.
