Issuing a statement in Hyderabad, senior BJP leader Gudur Narayan Reddy has alleged that the Congress government is pushing the state of Telangana towards 'asset bankruptcy'. He stated that the government is relying on the auctioning of precious government lands to meet its immediate revenue requirements.
Gudur Narayan Reddy warned that the continuous disposal of public assets in this manner could weaken the state's financial credibility. This process may limit the state's borrowing capacity in the future and could also affect the government's ability to provide funds for welfare schemes and infrastructure projects.
According to a report in The Hindu, citing CAG-related figures, Mr. Narayan Reddy stated that during 2023-24, Telangana received ₹16,478 crore from land, property, and other miscellaneous sources, which is approximately 69% of the state's non-tax revenue. He informed that as of March 31, 2022, the former TSIIC held 53,473.76 acres of land, and between 2014-15 and 2021-22, there were 2,355 land allotment cases covering an area of approximately 4,050 acres.
Comparing this with past data, he stated that the BRS government had auctioned approximately 31 acres of land in the Raidurg-Knowledge City corridor for about ₹730 crore, while in August 2023, land prices in Kokapet Neopolis reached up to ₹100.75 crore per acre.
The BJP leader alleged that the Congress government has accelerated this process since coming to power. According to his claims, since January 2024, the Congress government has auctioned approximately 40 acres of land in Raidurg-Knowledge City for about ₹7,000 crore, with an average price of ₹179 crore per acre. He further stated that auctions were held at rates of ₹177 crore in October 2025, ₹237 crore in May 2026, and ₹264 crore and ₹269 crore per acre in August 2026.
He added that in auctions conducted by HMDA in three phases in Kokapet Neopolis in 2025, approximately ₹3,708 crore was received for 27 acres of land, with an average price of ₹137 crore per acre. HMDA proposes the auction of a further 114 land plots, with an estimated revenue target of ₹2,000 crore. In this regard, he questioned the logic of relying continuously on land sales to collect revenue.
Expressing concern over future industrial development, he noted that as of September 2025, TGIIC reportedly had 5,730 acres of land available for industrial allotment.
