According to a Sandesh report, with the objective of ensuring security and safety ahead of the Diwali festivals in Ahmedabad, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch launched the biggest joint mega-operation till date against foreign nationals staying illegally. Under this operation, a total of 61 foreign nationals were caught and detained by conducting simultaneous raids in various zones of the city.
Primary investigation and intensive interrogation revealed that all 61 detained nationals are natives of Bangladesh and were staying illegally in India without any kind of legal passport or visa. The Crime Branch had received specific intelligence that some Bangladeshi nationals were residing illegally in Ahmedabad city by changing their disguises and engaging as laborers or in other occupations.
Based on this tip-off, different police teams were formed to conduct simultaneous raids in sensitive and labor-populated areas, including the eastern and western zones of the city. During this time, the police jointly conducted intensive checking.
During the investigation, no official proof regarding legal residency in India was found from these suspicious people. Due to the lack of evidence, all these people were immediately detained and subsequently shifted to the Crime Branch police station.
In the wake of this major and collective action by the Crime Branch, a massive stir has broken out among elements encouraging illegal infiltration. Currently, along with verifying the documents of all these caught Bangladeshi nationals, further process of deporting them is also underway.
