According to a report in The Hindu newspaper, the YSRCP on Sunday demanded repolls in municipal wards across the state where the polling process was allegedly affected due to booth capturing and other electoral malpractices. The party made serious allegations against the State Election Commission (SEC), stating that despite repeated complaints, no proper action was taken by the commission.
In this regard, a delegation of the YSRCP staged a protest outside the office of the State Election Commission and submitted a representation to the State Election Commissioner. This delegation included party leaders such as MLC Lella Appi Reddy, Kalpalata Reddy, Murugudu Hanumantha Rao, and Ruhullah, among others.
Party leaders alleged that functionaries of the TDP-led alliance occupied polling booths, drove out YSRCP polling agents, attacked candidates, and prevented voters from exercising their franchise. They also claimed that contrary to court orders, CCTV cameras and webcasting facilities were made available at only 6,000 to 7,000 polling stations out of a total of 12,724 polling stations.
According to the report, the leaders cited incidents of alleged electoral malpractices that took place in Pulivendula, Kadapa, Madanapalle, Chittoor, Chimakurthi, Macherla, and Chilakaluripet. A demand has been made to cancel polling in all these affected areas and conduct it again.
Demanding accountability from the State Election Commission, police, and the election machinery, YSRCP leaders made it clear that they will take forward the issue of these malpractices through both political opposition and legal processes.
