A senior manager of a jewellery company involved in a serious rape case in Delhi has been brought back to India from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This success was achieved following coordination between the Delhi Police, Interpol, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), as well as the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs. The accused has been identified as 38-year-old Sajir Palli Mupman or Sajir PM, a resident of Kannur, Kerala. According to the police, the accused was handed over to a Delhi Police team by UAE authorities on 4 November and was subsequently brought to Delhi on Wednesday. Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Devesh Chandra Srivastava provided information regarding this during a press conference.
The entire incident dates back to October 2025. According to a PTI report and details shared by the police, on 1 October 2025, during an employee's birthday celebration at a lounge in Punjabi Bagh, the accused allegedly administered alcohol and intoxicating substances to a 20-year-old female employee. It has since emerged that he sexually exploited the woman. The police stated that the accused took her to a hotel in Karol Bagh and raped her against her will in the early hours of 2 October. Police investigation has also revealed that the accused used another person's identification documents while checking into the hotel to conceal the woman's identity.
Following the incident, the woman first informed the company management. The company management issued a show-cause notice to the accused on 4 October 2025 and initiated proceedings through its internal committee under the 'Prevention of Sexual Harassment' framework. However, the accused did not come to participate in this internal inquiry. The woman sent a formal complaint to the company once again via email on 18 December 2025. Subsequently, the accused fled India on 5 January and began working at a plumbing accessories shop in Dubai.
The woman approached the Delhi Police on 18 February, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Karol Bagh police station under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rape, causing hurt by poison or other substances, cheating by personation, and offences with common intention. Investigators recorded the woman's statement, conducted her medical examination, and collected documentary and other evidence from the Punjabi Bagh lounge and the Karol Bagh hotel. Hotel records, CCTV footage, and identification documents were also examined.
A team from the Karol Bagh police station also visited Kerala to locate the accused, but he had already left the country. Investigations revealed that he reached the UAE on 5 January 2026. Subsequently, on 30 April, authorities sent a request to Interpol via BHARATPOL, which is a digital platform developed by the CBI for international police cooperation and information exchange. Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice against the accused on 7 July. The Delhi Police coordinated with the CBI, Interpol, the Ministries of Home and External Affairs, and the Bureau of Immigration for this process. The competent authority in Abu Dhabi approved the extradition request on 9 October. On 31 October, a three-member team from the Delhi Police went to the UAE to complete the formalities and bring back the accused. The accused has now returned to India, and further investigation in the rape case is underway.
The accused was previously working as a manager in a jewellery firm. According to the police, he committed this crime in October 2025 and subsequently fled abroad in January 2026.
