According to information released by the PIB, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the alleged deaths of 24 women during pregnancy treatment or childbirth in various government and private hospitals in the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Media reports state that these incidents occurred between April and October 2026.
A report from the Health Department has revealed that the highest number of deaths, 8, were recorded in the Rajapur area, while 5 women each died in Loni and Bhojpura. Furthermore, more than 3,000 pregnant women in the district have been identified as 'high-risk pregnancies'.
According to a media report published on November 3, 2026, out of the 24 women who died, 10 women passed away due to excessive bleeding. 3 women died due to severe infection and another 3 women died due to high blood pressure. The remaining 8 women are said to have died due to other medical reasons, including anaemia, heart attack, tuberculosis (TB), and brain tumour.
