Due to increasing inflows from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) and relief in crude oil prices, the main indices of the stock market saw gains on Wednesday (November 4, 2026). The market's benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are trading with gains in early morning trading, marking a continuous upward trend for the fifth consecutive day.
According to a report by The Hindu, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 288 points to reach 77,185.35. Meanwhile, the 50-share NSE Nifty was trading at 23,890.85 with a gain of 77.25 points. On the previous day, i.e., Tuesday, the Sensex closed at a high of 76,917.85, up 1,225.07 points or 1.62%, and the Nifty closed at 23,810.85, up 370.05 points or 1.58%. In the last four trading days, the Sensex has risen by 3,671.82 points or 5% and the Nifty by 1,112 points or 4.89%.
Among the 30 companies in the Sensex, Bharat Electronics, ITC, Adani Ports, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, and State Bank of India were the top gainers. On the other hand, declines were seen in companies such as Power Grid, Eternal, Tata Consultancy Services, and Bharti Airtel. According to a report by Business Standard, Adani Ports (APSEZ) share prices rose 3% on the BSE to reach a high of ₹1,921. Additionally, shares of Bosch, Divi's Labs, Marico, and Welspun Living also reached record highs.
Foreign investors play a major role in this market rally. According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought shares worth ₹6,836.81 crore on Tuesday. V.K. Vijaykumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investment Ltd, stated that there has been a clear change in market sentiment, primarily due to a sudden shift in FII sentiment towards India. He further added that strong corporate earnings and attractive valuations of large-cap stocks are supporting the market, and the arrival of foreign investors has also been facilitated by weakness in the AI trade.
Regarding global markets, Brent crude was trading at 103.2 USD per barrel, down 0.43%. In Asian markets, South Korea's KOSPI, Japan's Nikkei 225, and Shanghai's SSE Composite Index were trading with declines, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index was slightly up. US equity markets mostly closed with gains on Tuesday.
The Indian stock market is a platform for investing in various sectors of the country's economy, where shares of companies are bought and sold. It includes major stock exchanges such as the BSE and NSE.
