The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has extended the deadline for compliance with circulars related to digital accessibility to 31 January next year. According to a Business Standard report, this decision has been taken keeping in view the requests made by market participants.
SEBI has stated that this timeline includes key requirements such as appointing an International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) auditor, conducting an accessibility audit of digital platforms, and addressing findings discovered during the audit. All these requirements are linked to the mandatory compliance with the 'Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016' and the rules framed thereunder.
Representations were made by regulated entities regarding the extension of the deadline for submitting compliance status, which SEBI reviewed. The institution has also noted that it has monitored the progress work done by the entities. In this regard, five previous communications were issued by SEBI in July, August, September, and December 2025, as well as 31 July, 2026.
SEBI has clarified that all other provisions of the earlier circulars will remain unchanged and it will be mandatory for regulated entities to comply with them. The main objective of these directives is to protect the interests of investors, promote development, and regulate the securities market.
