Google has added a new app called 'Dreambeans' to its portfolio, which aims to create a "handcrafted visual journey" of a user's life. The app will be available for both Android and Apple iPhone users. According to a report by Business Standard, Dreambeans uses AI to generate personalized daily story collections based on information from the user's connected Google apps.
Google Gemini's personal intelligence capabilities will be used for the curation of this feed, drawing context from various Google apps. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the app will use special watercolor-style visuals instead of typical AI-generated images. For this, Google DeepMind's latest generative models have been used, including 'Veo' video generation for visuals. If the user grants permission, personalized elements such as caricatures of family members can also be included in these visuals, based on album references from Google Photos.
Gozde Oznur, Product Manager at Google Labs, stated in a briefing, "The vision for our product is simple: we wanted to solve a problem where digital information is scattered across apps used daily. We wanted to create something proactive where the user does not need to provide a prompt."
Dreambeans will currently connect with personal Gmail accounts, but it is not yet available for business or enterprise accounts. Personal intelligence connection is optional. Users can choose Google Workspace apps such as Gmail, Drive, Google Photos, YouTube, Search services, and the Gemini app according to their preference. This selection process is part of the setup flow, so the user does not have to go to the settings menu later.
In India, this app is available in 14 languages: Hindi, English, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Assamese, and Nepali. A chatbot has also been integrated into this feed for further information or queries.
According to Oznur, India has become the center of the app's first international expansion outside the US. The reason is that the highest global usage of apps like Gemini, Gmail, and Google Photos is seen in India. She added, "No other country ranks so high across these three apps. We felt that India, with its connection to family, food, travel, and festivals like Diwali, is a natural place to bring Dreambeans."
Integration of search services will provide updates and suggestions based on the user's past searches, Maps, shopping, flights, hotels, Translate, and news. If the Gemini app is connected, context will be prepared based on chat history and conversation topics. Google states that this is not an infinite scrolling feed, but is focused on specific recommendations, upcoming trips, and weekend suggestions, reflecting the user's contacts and visited places.
According to the early access experience of Hindustan Times, this feed updates three times a day: in the morning digest, in the afternoon, and then at the end of the day. If access to Google Photos is not granted, no personal faces appear in the watercolor artwork.
