A serious incident has emerged in the Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan, near the India-Pakistan international border, where a powerful explosion on a railway track has caused panic in the administration. According to a report by News18, this explosion occurred near the 50 GB point on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh railway line. As a precautionary measure following the incident, all train services between Anupgarh and Suratgarh have been suspended for the time being. The intensity of the blast was such that its sound was heard approximately 200 metres away, and a pit about two feet deep was formed under the track.
According to available details, the explosion occurred around 9 pm at night. Just 45 minutes before this incident, a passenger train traveling from Anupgarh to Suratgarh had passed through this area, thereby averting a major accident. The explosion has caused heavy damage to two concrete pillars supporting the railway track and some sleepers. Upon learning of the incident, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and concerned railway officials immediately reached the spot and inspected the situation.
Providing information on the matter, Sri Ganganagar Superintendent of Police Harishankar stated that a suspicious explosion occurred on the railway line near 50 GB village, in which two cement pillars supporting the track were damaged. He clarified that it would be premature to know the exact cause of this incident at present. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has been called by the police and security agencies to collect evidence. The Superintendent of Police further stated that the investigation into this incident is being conducted under the jurisdiction of Ramsinhpur police station. Investigators are also examining whether this railway track was targeted deliberately.
Teams from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Dog Squad, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), and various security intelligence agencies reached the spot. A contingent of security personnel reached the site around 2 am at night. The railway administration decided to keep train services suspended until 9 am in the morning so that the security check could be completed.
Discussions have also begun regarding whether this incident has any connection with the 7.5 kg quantity of RDX recently found in the border area after the blast. However, investigating officers have currently denied any connection between the two incidents. Superintendent of Police Harishankar emphasized that, at this stage, there is no established link between this explosion and the RDX recovered from the border. The investigation is still in its preliminary stage, and the exact nature and cause of this explosion will only become clear after the reports from the Bomb Disposal Squad and the forensic team are received.
