A special general meeting was held on Thursday at the Gandevi Taluka Panchayat building's assembly hall, presided over by President Pushpaben Patel. During this meeting, in-depth discussions were held on serious issues such as the terrible flood situation in several villages of the taluka during the last monsoon, the assistance provided to flood victims, the narrowing of riverbeds, and obstructions in the flow of water.
During the meeting, member Priyanka Patel drew attention to the fact that in areas where rivers meet the sea, the riverbeds have become very narrow, due to which rainwater cannot be drained properly. She stated that due to obstructions in the natural flow, the risk of flooding in surrounding villages increases during heavy rainfall.
Responding to this, Vice President Mahesh Halpati stated that a satellite-based survey of the riverbeds from Devdha Dam to the sea is underway. Based on the report of this survey, the riverbeds will be deepened wherever necessary. Furthermore, cleaning of natural canals will be carried out for the drainage of rainwater. He added that action has been taken against illegal encroachments and 'jinga' ponds that create obstacles in the flow of water, and encroachments have been removed from several places.
On the other hand, Taluka Development Officer Piyug Gamit requested members to keep complete data and necessary details of the affected persons ready in advance so that government assistance reaches flood-affected families on time and there is no delay in payment. The members assured their cooperation in this matter.
According to a Sandesh report, all four items on the agenda were unanimously approved in this meeting, and the process for the formation of the Taluka Child Protection Committee was initiated. At the beginning of the meeting, the proceedings of the previous general meeting were ratified. In the end, President Pushpaben Patel extended Diwali greetings to those present.
On this occasion, Executive Committee Chairman Parthiv Nayak, Satig Katariya, Manoj Patel, Pratik Patel, Seema Tandel, Extension Officer Vandana Borsivala, Hina Patel, and ATDO Ketan Patel, among other members, were present.
