The police have taken strict action against the drug trade in Ahmedabad city. Acting on a tip-off, the police busted a major hybrid cannabis network within the limits of Krishnanagar police station. In this case, three friends named Sandipkumar Varma, Pradip Rajput, and Bunty Mirchandani have been arrested. According to a report by Sandesh, police investigation revealed that this network had been active for the last 7 months. A total of 54.180 grams of hybrid cannabis has been seized from the accused, which has an approximate market value of ₹1,90,000. During interrogation, it was revealed that Bunty Mirchandani had brought this stock from Rajasthan just 10 days ago. All three accused are themselves drug addicts and were engaged in retail sales in surrounding areas to satisfy their own needs alongside profit. Currently, the police are investigating to reach the main supplier in Rajasthan.
On the other hand, the illegal drug trade has also been exposed in Chitradi village of Halvad taluka in Morbi district. Based on secret information received by the Morbi Anti-Narcotics Wing, the police raided a farm. Here, cannabis was being illegally cultivated under the guise of a castor crop. The police have seized 364 green cannabis plants from the farm, weighing a total of 33.050 kg. The market value of this quantity is estimated at ₹16.57 lakh. The police arrested the person engaged in this illegal cultivation, Vipul alias Roko Dhirubhai, from the spot. A case has been registered against the accused at Halvad police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police are now investigating where the accused obtained the cannabis seeds and to whom this stock was to be supplied.
Additionally, security agencies have been put on alert following an e-mail threat to blow up Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Central Jail with bombs. According to reports by TV9 Gujarati and NDTV, the e-mail sent by an unknown person warned of major action, making reference to the year 2008. The threat also included slogans of Pakistan and Khalistan Zindabad. A thorough search was conducted at Sabarmati Jail, where gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is lodged, by the Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad. Security has also been increased in all jails across the state, and the cyber crime team is investigating to trace the IP address of the e-mail.
