The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team has conducted a major operation in Gamanpura village of Mehsana district. Here, the Sarpanch and Talati-cum-Secretary of the Gram Panchayat were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1,00,000.
According to a report by Sandesh, a complainant had purchased land, converted it to Non-Agricultural (NA) use, and started a water treatment chemical unit. An application was submitted to the Panchayat to obtain permission for additional construction to increase production in this unit. In exchange for granting this approval, the Sarpanch and Talati had demanded a total bribe of ₹1,00,000.
As the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe, they contacted the ACB and lodged a complaint. Based on this, Police Inspector M.R. Sheth and his team from the Ahmedabad City ACB Police Station laid a trap. During the operation, Sarpanch Maniben Mahendraj Thakor was caught red-handed accepting ₹80,000 and Talati-cum-Secretary Deeptiben Vasantbhai Patel was caught accepting ₹20,000.
The ACB team has legally detained both women public servants from the spot along with the bribe amount and has initiated further proceedings.
