Kolkata Police have conducted a major operation, arresting six members of a gang involved in a multi-crore fraud perpetrated in the name of a fake Prime Minister Wi-Fi scheme. According to an NDTV India report, the six apprehended individuals include five women. Acting on specific information received from a confidential source, police raided a call centre located at Government Place (East) in the Dalhousie area of Kolkata on Wednesday. During the raid, six persons involved in the entire scam were taken into custody.
Meanwhile, a serious case of fraud in the name of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) has emerged in Vadodara. According to a Samdesh report, a citizen was defrauded of ₹9.05 lakh in the Subhanpura area after being lured with the promise of a government housing scheme commercial shop at a cheap rate. Allegations have been levelled against Kashyap Joshi, the son of a local BJP worker, and his gang. The accused, Kashyap Joshi, posed as an influential officer of the 'Gujarat Housing Board' and gained the complainant's trust by claiming a shop was vacant in the Subhanpura housing scheme. The gang prepared fake allotment and registry documents using forged rubber stamps and bogus signatures of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and the Sub-Registrar's office. A total of ₹9.05 lakh was extorted in various stages under the pretext of form fees, allotment deposits, and government charges. The scam came to light when the victim, failing to get possession of the shop for a long time, conducted an inquiry at the office. A case has been registered against four individuals at the Gorwa police station.
In another development, the South Region Cyber Police of Mumbai Police have arrested three individuals from Nagpur who were operating a share trading investment fraud racket. According to The Hindu report, Amit Diliprao Kale, Ritik Shailesh Dhargawe, and Aniruddha Satish Uke were arrested on November 2, 2026. Investigations revealed that the three had jointly created a bogus company named 'Grain Garden Delight Private Limited' and used its bank account to transfer funds obtained through cyber fraud. Following these arrests, links have been established in 73 cyber crime cases across India, including six cases from Mumbai.
The Mumbai Police investigation began when an amount of ₹24.75 lakh in a share trading fraud case was traced to a current account opened at the Jaripatka branch of the Central Bank of India in Nagpur. Based on information from the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) and technical analysis, the police team raided the Jaripatka area and apprehended the company director, Ritik Dhargawe. Investigations revealed that the masterminds, Amit Kale and Aniruddha Uke, had created this shell company using fake rental agreements and other documents. Kale used a SIM card registered in Dhargawe's name in his own mobile to coordinate fraudulent transactions and the network. Police have seized 11 chequebooks, 25 SIM cards, 11 rubber stamps, debit-ATM cards, QR codes, and PAN cards. A case has been registered under sections 318(4), 319(2), 338, 61(2), 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act. The entire operation was conducted under the leadership of Senior Police Inspector Nandkumar Gopal, Inspector Bhagwan, and ASP Ramdas Gopal.
