India will have to negotiate with the Donald Trump we know: Shashi Tharoor

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has expressed his views on the impact of the 2026 American midterm elections on India-US relations and Donald Trump's foreign policy. According to a special report by News18, Tharoor stated that despite changing political equations after the midterm elections, Donald Trump will remain largely unchecked in matters of foreign policy.

Tharoor said, "Fundamentally, Trump is like a free bird on foreign policy, so I think India will have to continue negotiating with the Donald Trump we know." According to a report by The Times of India, Tharoor added that there would be no impact on India-US relations and Trump would maintain authority over issues such as tariffs and the Iran war.

This statement has raised important questions regarding India's diplomatic approach towards Washington, the upcoming challenges in trade negotiations between India and the US, and how New Delhi will maintain relations with an unpredictable American administration.

Shashi Tharoor is an Indian politician, author, intellectual, diplomat, and civil servant. He has been representing Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala in the Lok Sabha since 2009. He was previously the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and stood second in the election for Secretary-General in 2006.
