The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the possibility of heavy rainfall in various southern states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, today, 5 November, and has issued a high alert. According to a report by Mint, this rainfall is occurring due to the remnants of Cyclone Murasu, which are gradually dissipating.
The remnants of 'Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu', which brought extremely heavy rainfall to Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh yesterday, are now in the form of a depression. According to the latest release from the IMD, this depression is likely to move northwards and weaken, transforming into a 'well-marked low-pressure area'.
On the other hand, signs of seasonal change are being observed in the Delhi and NCR region. According to the Meteorological Department, Delhi will have mainly clear skies on Thursday, but light fog or mist may be observed at some places in the morning. Providing information regarding wind speed in Delhi, it was stated that in the morning, winds will blow from the north-west direction at a speed of 15 km/h, which will increase to 20 km/h in the afternoon and stabilize at 12 km/h in the evening and night.
Speaking of Delhi's temperature, the maximum temperature is expected to be between 27°C to 29°C, while the minimum temperature will be between 15°C to 17°C. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in most parts of Delhi will be near normal (-1.5°C to 1.5°C), but the maximum temperature is likely to be below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C).
Along with the weather, the pollution situation in Delhi is also concerning. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality in Delhi was in the 'very poor' category at 7:00 am on Thursday, where the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 368. The air quality was worst in Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area, where it fell into the 'severe' category with an AQI of 458 recorded.
A continuous increase has been observed in Delhi's AQI over the last few days. Previously, on Tuesday, the AQI was recorded at 332 and on Wednesday at 379, due to which it had entered the 'very poor' category. Thus, the impact of both fog and pollution is being seen in the atmosphere in Delhi.
Amidst heavy rainfall and strong winds caused by Cyclone Murasu, people were seen at the seashore in the Ongole and Prakasam areas of Andhra Pradesh, which demonstrates the severity of this natural situation.
