Bharti Airtel overtakes Jio Platforms to become India's second most valuable company

According to a report by Business Standard, Bharti Airtel regained the title of India's second most valuable company on Friday, overtaking Jio Platforms based on market valuation. At the close of market hours, Bharti Airtel shares on the BSE rose by 1.66 per cent to reach ₹2,096.25, while during the day, the share had risen by 2.81 per cent to reach ₹2,120.

On the other hand, Jio Platforms shares recorded a decline of 0.90 per cent and closed at ₹1,405.75. During intraday trading, the share dropped by 2 per cent to reach ₹1,390. In terms of market value, Bharti Airtel's valuation stood at ₹13 trillion, while Jio Platforms' valuation was recorded at ₹12.94 trillion.

Reliance Industries remains the country's most valuable company with a market valuation of ₹17,83,723.93 crore. In the top 5 rankings of market capitalisation, Reliance Industries is first, Bharti Airtel is second with ₹13,08,165.03 crore, Jio Platforms is third with ₹12,94,559.51 crore, HDFC Bank is fourth with ₹12,14,530.78 crore, and ICICI Bank is fifth with ₹11,26,722.63 crore.

It is noteworthy that Jio Platforms, the digital services company backed by Reliance Industries, had become the second most valuable company after making an impressive debut on Dalal Street on October 28.

Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel on Thursday reported an operating profit of ₹10,710 crore for the second quarter ending September 2026, representing an increase of 24 per cent. This growth occurred due to an increase in average revenue per user following changes in mobile tariffs. According to regulatory filings, the company's profit in the same period last year was ₹8,651 crore.
