Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that eligible families under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in the state will be provided with one free LPG cylinder on the occasions of the Diwali and Holi festivals. He made this significant announcement while participating in a programme organised for the distribution of refill subsidies to more than 1.89 crore beneficiaries in the state.
The state government has allocated ₹1,500 crore to provide subsidies to eligible families under this scheme. Addressing the programme, the Chief Minister provided detailed information regarding the cost of domestic gas cylinders and the subsidy provided by the Central Government. He stated that the price of one domestic gas cylinder is ₹983.45, of which the Government of India provides a subsidy of ₹335, due to which citizens have to pay ₹648.55 from their own pockets.
The Chief Minister added that the state government has decided to provide one cylinder to poor families under the Ujjwala Yojana on Diwali and Holi. He said that by using the saved money, people would be able to purchase Diwali sweets and lamps. Along with this, while comparing the current government with the Congress government era, he stated that during the Congress rule, people had to face many difficulties to obtain a gas connection, whereas his government has provided free gas connections to poor families, which is an example of good governance.
During this programme, he also spoke about the Deepotsav of Ayodhya to be held on 7 November. Describing Deepotsav as a symbol of social unity, he said that this festival brings people of different sections of society together through equal faith and cultural participation. The Chief Minister will also visit Ayodhya to review the preparations for this programme.
He stated via a post on the social media platform X that in the past, caste division was used as a basis for politics, but the Deepotsav started by the state government in 2017 has transformed the cultural heritage of Ayodhya into a festival for people of all classes. He said that the message of Deepotsav is that lamps burn in different hands, but their light unites the entire society. Governments before 2017 focused on caste-based politics, but the Double Engine government has changed this mentality.
Yogi Adityanath is the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He has made various efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of Ayodhya and increase social unity.
