The Software Development Institute (SDI) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoA) with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and the IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation for the joint design and development of an indigenous digital communication system for aerial applications.
According to a PIB report, this significant agreement was signed by the Commandant of SDI, Air Vice Marshal Sarabjit Singh, and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation, Dr. M.J. Shankar Raman. Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, was also present on the occasion.
Under the framework of this collaboration, the Indian Air Force, IIT Madras, and IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation will work together to develop advanced algorithms for communication systems and networking. The primary objective of this initiative is to prepare a secure digital communication system for aerial platforms.
These indigenously developed systems will help in reducing dependence on imported technology. Additionally, this step will enhance the operational capability of the Indian Air Force and further strengthen the vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.
The Indian Air Force is the aerial branch of the Indian Armed Forces. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and conduct aerial warfare during armed conflicts. It was officially established on 8 October 1932 as the auxiliary air force of British India, which served India's aviation services during the Second World War.
