The Kerala state government aims to ensure international-level employment opportunities and courses in the animal husbandry sector. Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Bindu Krishna stated this while inaugurating the renovated Rabies Diagnostic Centre and women's hostel at the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) located in Pookode.
Minister Bindu Krishna noted that significant changes have occurred in the animal husbandry sector considering the progress made in modern science. She added that the government will take the lead in promoting research that benefits the public through integrated courses to be introduced at the university. The Minister emphasised that universities are indispensable for shaping an educated generation equipped with practical knowledge.
She assured full support from the government for the developmental activities of KVASU and the progress of the students. Expressing pride, the Minister stated that graduates of this university are serving as prestigious scientists in various parts of the world.
Along with academic development, the Minister spoke about paying special attention to providing mental health and counselling facilities for students. She urged students to strongly oppose drug addiction on campus and in society, stating that every student should have the determination to spread the message of 'Say No to Drugs'.
According to a report by The Hindu, the renovation of the Rabies Diagnostic Centre has been carried out under the 2025-26 plan. Equipment including a fluorescent microscope has been installed at this centre. This renovated laboratory will further strengthen integrated initiatives for animal health and public health in North Kerala.
Furthermore, to address the shortage of accommodation for female students, two hostels have been constructed in the veterinary campus. Funds from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the university's own funds were used for the construction of these hostels. A total of 43 rooms are available in these two hostels.
Vice Chancellor K.S. Anil of KVASU presided over the entire programme.
