Ravita and her lover Amardeep, who were sentenced to death for the murder of her husband Amit Kashyap in Akbarpur Sadat village of Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh, have filed an appeal in the Allahabad High Court challenging the district court's verdict. The High Court has accepted the petition filed against the district court's judgment, and the hearing for this matter has been scheduled for November 5.
Advocate Adesh Kumar, representing the accused, stated that the petition has been accepted by the High Court and the hearing will now take place on November 5. Earlier, on October 16, Additional District and Sessions Judge Jayveer Singh of Meerut had sentenced both Ravita and Amardeep to death, categorising the case as 'rarest of rare'.
According to reports, the entire incident stemmed from a dispute over a love affair. According to the prosecution, Ravita, a resident of Akbarpur Sadat village, was in a relationship with Amardeep from the same village. When Ravita's husband, Amit Kashyap, opposed this relationship, Ravita and Amardeep conspired to murder Amit.
The murder was planned on the night of April 12, 2025. Ravita and her lover strangled Amit Kashyap, leading to his death at the spot. To make the murder look like an accident, the accused adopted an extremely strange and cruel tactic. They wanted it to appear that Amit's death was caused by a poisonous snake bite rather than a criminal conspiracy.
To achieve this, the accused released a snake on Amit's body. However, during the police investigation, the conspiracy of both the accused was exposed. Following the investigation, Ravita and Amardeep were arrested on April 16, 2025. After the trial in court, the judge found both guilty and awarded the death penalty.
Now, Advocate Adesh Kumar will fight this verdict in the High Court on behalf of the accused. Following the strict verdict of the district court, all eyes are now on the High Court hearing on November 5. The investigation revealed the conspiracy hatched by the accused using a snake to portray the murder as an accident.
The Meerut district court had passed the sentence considering the case to be extremely serious. The appeal filed by the accused is now under consideration in the High Court, where the death sentence has been challenged.
