Sudden appearance of blue-colored water in Damanganga canal in Vapi GIDC

Dark blue water was seen flowing in the Damanganga canal, which passes through the Vapi GIDC Third Phase area, since early morning today. This incident has sparked intense discussion and debate among local residents. Locals stated that this coloured water was observed starting from the rear part of the Third Phase, passing through areas including Rata Vadiyavad Faliya, and extending from Vadiyavad up to the Chhiri area.

Locals are expressing suspicion that an unknown company has allegedly released chemical-laden water into the canal. The possibility that a company might be releasing coloured water in this manner to hide its pollution by taking advantage of the Diwali holidays cannot be ruled out. According to a report by Sandesh, there is also discussion that a company has dared to do this due to the lack of proper supervision by the department responsible for pollution control.

The water flowing in the canal could pose a serious risk to the health of locals. Many people living in the surrounding areas use the water from this canal. Women come to the canal to wash clothes, and children are also seen bathing. Additionally, livestock and cattle residing in the surrounding area drink this same water. If this water contains toxic or harmful elements, it could become hazardous to both human and animal health.

Currently, whether this blue water flowing in the canal contains acetic chemical or any other industrial chemical is a matter of investigation. Locals have demanded that samples of the canal water be taken immediately and a scientific investigation be conducted. If it is proven that polluted water was illegally released by any company, legal action should be taken against the responsible company.

Despite a seminar being organised recently in Vapi regarding environment-friendly industrial operations and preventing pollution, such an incident has led to visible anger among the people.
