The Madhya Pradesh government is moving forward with a plan to construct five Greenfield Expressway corridors across the state. This project is estimated to cost approximately ₹63,296 crore. The significant decision was taken during the 49th board meeting of the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.
These proposed four-lane and access-controlled corridors will span a total length of 1,398 km. Under this scheme, work will be carried out on the Bhopal-Manduor (258 km), Sagar-Satna (227 km), Jabalpur-Ashapur (358 km), Bhopal-Gwalior (320 km), and Katni-Singrauli (235 km) routes. Feasibility reports for the first three corridors are being prepared, and consultants are submitting alignment options for review. Meanwhile, the tender process to select DPR consultants for the Bhopal-Gwalior and Katni-Singrauli routes is currently underway.
Chief Minister Yadav directed officials to expedite ongoing road projects. He emphasised that no village, town, or city should be deprived of road connectivity that remains useful in all seasons. Additionally, he ordered that the name of the Corporation's proposed highway fund be changed to ‘Viksit Madhya Pradesh Sankalp Path’.
Other important decisions were also approved by the board. These include 100% equity divestment in the four-lane Jaora-Nayagaon BOT project, the creation of new senior positions, and the acquisition of the PAM building in Bhopal. Furthermore, it was decided to exempt combine harvesters from toll charges at all toll plazas operated by MPRDC.
