BSF personnel deployed on the border in Tripura's Sepahijala district have been attacked. In this violent incident, a total of 3 personnel, including a BSF Company Commander, have been seriously injured. During the incident that occurred in the Ashabadi area, attackers attempted to snatch weapons from the personnel and also damaged a government vehicle.
According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, the attack took place when the BSF was attempting to prevent a smuggling attempt. Rural residents staged a protest by blocking roads. The villagers alleged that BSF personnel had assaulted a local resident and that one personnel is involved in smuggling. When the vehicle carrying 3 BSF personnel reached the blockade site, the mob attacked the vehicle with sticks and clubs.
During the incident, one personnel was caught by the crowd and two individuals began beating him with sticks. The crowd was attempting to snatch the personnel's rifle while continuously beating him. A woman was also seen hitting the personnel with a stick during this violence. The personnel was thrown to the ground by the crowd, and his rifle was forcibly snatched. Meanwhile, people also vandalised the BSF vehicle.
In this matter, the police have arrested 9 people so far, while others have been taken to Kalamchoura police station for interrogation. According to an ANI report, this attack has created a situation of tension in the area. ANI stated that any kind of attack on security personnel is a matter of serious concern and strict action should be taken in this regard as per the law. Officials have been instructed to take immediate and strict action against those responsible for this incident and to ensure justice.
Condemning the incident, SP Bijay Debbarma stated that such an incident happening to those who protect the country is extremely shameful and no person involved in this matter will be spared. State Chief Minister Manik Saha also condemned the incident and directed swift action against the accused seen in the videos viral on social media. The Chief Minister also shared photos of 4 accused on the X platform. According to sources, there is a possibility that some Bangladeshi citizens are also involved among the attackers who were residing in the Ashabadi area and conducting cross-border smuggling, although there is no official confirmation.
Senior officers of the police and BSF reached Boxanagar to monitor the situation. Boxanagar police are investigating the matter and searching for more accused. A house opposite the site of the attack is equipped with CCTV cameras, which may have recorded this violent incident. The police and BSF have initiated the process of obtaining CCTV footage for investigation. The injured personnel were taken to the hospital for treatment, in which one personnel had bandages on his head and hand.
This is the third incident of attack on personnel in Tripura in the last two and a half years. Earlier, in April 2024, 3 personnel were injured in a mob attack during an attempt to stop smuggling in Durgapur village. Subsequently, in November 2025, during an attempt to stop suspicious cattle smuggling in Bishalgarh, a BSF vehicle was vandalised by a mob, in which 5 personnel were injured.
