According to a Business Standard report, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has cancelled Diwali celebrations at his residence this year in view of the damage caused and hardships endured due to Cyclone Dana and the subsequent floods in some parts of the state.
In a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), it has been stated that the Diwali celebrations scheduled at the Chief Minister's residence have been postponed. On this occasion, the Chief Minister has also requested people not to bring gifts or bouquets to his residence.
In a post made by the CMO on the social media platform X, it has been said that the Hon'ble Chief Minister has appealed to the people to remain sensitive towards the public of the affected areas and extend a helping hand to those affected by this disaster.
Earlier, as a symbol of solidarity with farmers who suffered crop losses due to heavy rains in October, Chief Minister Majhi had also skipped Durga Puja celebrations and refrained from visiting puja pandals.
The southern districts of the state have been the most affected by the heavy rains and flood fury caused by Cyclone Dana, which has led to the displacement of thousands of people and caused widespread damage to property and crops.
