A shocking incident has come to light in Karnataka where a girlfriend was taken to Gokak Falls under the pretext of discussing marriage and was murdered, NDTV has reported. A 23-year-old girl named Rakshita Sarikar and her lover had been in a relationship for the past four years, and the lover had promised to marry her, but they frequently quarreled over this matter. The accused, 29-year-old Basappa Satannavar, who perpetrated this murder, is a native of Belagavi district and serves as a constable in the 21st Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Bihar.
According to reports, Rakshita had been waiting for the past four years for her lover to fulfill his promise of marriage, but the visit to Gokak Falls to decide their future proved fatal for her. On October 28 last, Basappa took Rakshita to Gokak Falls under the pretext of discussing marriage and their future. During this visit, a heated argument and dispute broke out between the two over some matter. This altercation escalated to the point that the accused Basappa attacked Rakshita, struck her on the ear, and then brutally murdered her by strangling her.
After murdering the girl, the accused threw her body into a hilly area near the waterfall and fled from the spot. When Rakshita did not return home on time, her family members grew worried and began searching for her. When they could not trace her for a long time, they lodged a missing person complaint at the police station on November 1. During the investigation into this missing person case, the police received crucial clues, and at the end of the investigation, this gruesome murder was exposed.
Following strict interrogation, the police arrested the accused Basappa on charges of murdering Rakshita. After the crime was proven during police investigation, he has been sent to judicial custody. A case has been officially registered regarding this matter at the local police station, and further investigation into this case is underway by the police so that if there are any other aspects behind this incident, they too can come to light.
