According to a report by The Hindu, a Mathura court has sentenced a temple priest to life imprisonment. The priest used to record obscene videos of minor girls visiting the temple and sell them to foreigners, a government lawyer said on Sunday (November 1, 2026).
According to Assistant Counsel Rampal Singh, in the verdict pronounced on Friday (October 30, 2026), Mathura's Additional District and Sessions Judge Brijesh Kumar also imposed a fine of ₹1.43 lakh on the convict, Shyam Bihari.
Mr. Singh stated that based on information received from Interpol, an FIR was registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 17, 2025. Subsequently, the priest was arrested by the agency from a temple in a village falling under the jurisdiction of the Jaint police station area in Mathura.
According to the prosecution, the CBI investigation revealed that the priest used to call girls visiting the temple into a room on the pretext of giving them prasad. Once they went inside the room, he would commit obscene acts with them and record videos of the same.
Mr. Singh stated that the priest would then sell those videos online to individuals living abroad. This is how the matter came to the attention of Interpol, which subsequently alerted the Government of India.
The CBI completed its investigation within a month and filed a charge sheet in the court on August 18, 2025. Following the conclusion of legal proceedings in this case, the court has pronounced this sentence.
