For the optimal growth of plants, sufficient water, sunlight, care, and fertiliser are essential. According to a report by Indian Express Gujarati, instead of buying fertilisers from the market, liquid fertiliser can be easily prepared at home using mustard cake (rai khan).
Mustard cake is rich in nitrogen, protein, and various nutrients, which prove to be very helpful in the growth of plants as well as the development of flowers and fruits. Additionally, mustard cake helps in retaining moisture in the soil and increases soil fertility. The use of this natural fertiliser also reduces the risk of diseases in plants.
However, raw mustard cake should never be applied directly to plants as it can damage the roots and leaves. Therefore, it is appropriate to use it only after converting it into a liquid form.
Providing information on the method of preparing fertiliser at home, the report states that first, take 100 grams of mustard cake and mix it well in 5 litres of water. Subsequently, this mixture must be covered and left for 4 to 5 days. During these 4 to 5 days, it is essential to stir the mixture once or twice.
After the specified time has passed, after 4 to 5 days, this mixture must be filtered properly using a sieve or a cloth. After filtering, 1 part of this prepared liquid fertiliser should be mixed with 10 parts of plain water, and in this way, the solution for use is prepared.
This liquid fertiliser can be used on flowering plants such as rose, hibiscus, and jasmine, as well as on plants of tomatoes, chillies, and various fruits and vegetables. The prepared fertiliser can be sprayed on the leaves and roots of the plants once or twice a month using a spray bottle.
Fertiliser should always be applied in the morning or evening, and it is essential to avoid applying fertiliser during the day. As an excess of anything proves harmful, the over-use of this fertiliser can damage the plants; therefore, it is advisable to always use it in limited quantities.
