In a state cabinet meeting held at Gandhinagar under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, a decision was taken to increase the monthly travel allowance of Gram Sevaks serving under the Agriculture Department. The previous allowance of ₹1,850 has been increased by ₹850, making it ₹2,700 per month.
Spokesperson Minister Shri Jitubhai Vaghani stated that currently, about 2,900 Gram Sevaks are working under the Agriculture Department in the state. On average, a Gram Sevak has to continuously travel through the field in 4 to 5 Gram Panchayats or even more villages in certain areas within their assigned circle. Taking this into account, the decision to increase the allowance was made.
The Minister stated that at the rural level, the Gram Sevak is a foundational employee acting as a link between the State Government and the farmers. Gram Sevaks are working with dedication to ensure that farmers easily receive the benefits of various government schemes and assistance.
In the present times, the scope of their work has increased. They perform tasks such as digital surveys via mobile apps for crop sowing and production estimates, e-KYC under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, conducting field surveys during natural disasters or heavy rains, and providing guidance to farmers. It has also become essential to maintain constant contact with farmers by visiting villages and fields for organizing Krishi Mahotsav/fairs, procurement at support prices, and the natural farming campaign.
The Minister added that this decision by the State Government will make the work of Gram Sevaks operating at the field level faster and smoother, and its direct benefit will reach millions of farmers in the state.
