Structural changes needed instead of regularizing Delhi's illegal colonies: Ashok Kumar Jain

There is an urgent need for fundamental changes in the urban structure of Delhi rather than just regularizing illegal colonies on paper. According to a report by 'The Hindu', retired Planning Commissioner of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Ashok Kumar Jain, has expressed this view. Analyzing Delhi's complex urban structure, he stated that the main reason behind the frequent accidents and problems in the city is the lack of planning. Merely granting recognition to colonies through administrative processes does not provide a permanent solution to the problems; rather, concrete planned reforms are essential for it.

Ashok Kumar Jain has deep experience in the field of Delhi's urban planning. He has served as the Planning Commissioner at the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). This organization is the main government body responsible for Delhi's urban development and planning. Additionally, he is also the author of the book titled 'Mapping Delhi's Past, Present and Future', in which he has shed light on the aspects of Delhi's past, present and future urban development. According to him, to remove the flaws in Delhi's urban development, it is extremely necessary to make long-term and practical structural changes instead of taking superficial decisions.
