According to TV9 Gujarati's report, a total of 14 traction substations, i.e., TSS, are being installed along the entire route to supply electricity without interruption to the country's first Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. These substations will play a major role in operating the high-speed train, ensuring a continuous and reliable power supply to the train.
These traction substations are a key part of the high-speed railway's power supply infrastructure. These substations receive electricity from the power grid, convert it to the required voltage, and send it to the traction power system, enabling the operation of the bullet train.
A total of 14 traction substations are being prepared at designated locations for the 508-kilometer-long Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route. Out of these, five substations will be built in the state of Maharashtra at Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, and the Thane depot. Meanwhile, in the state of Gujarat, these substations are being constructed at a total of nine locations, including Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Mehmedabad, Ahmedabad, and the Sabarmati depot.
Construction of the first traction substation at Bilimora in Navsari district of Gujarat is now nearing completion. The power transmission-related infrastructure is being prepared very rapidly at this substation, which is spread over an area of about 18,000 square meters. The process of installing, testing, and commissioning various equipment at this site is underway.
The installation of equipment inside the control panel, changeover switch, transformer, and circuit breaker building at the Bilimora substation has been completed. In addition, the work of installing all gantry towers and beams has also been finished. The remaining technical works are currently being progressed.
These traction substations built in the state of Gujarat will receive electricity from the 220 kV Ambetha grid substation of Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited, i.e., GETCO. Thereafter, electricity will be supplied to the Overhead Equipment, i.e., OHE, installed on the viaduct through the state-of-the-art 2x25 kV traction power supply system used along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route.
This entire power supply network will be continuously monitored in real-time by a centralized control centre. This modern power system will prove very useful in the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the bullet train. The completion of this power-related work in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project will provide yet another major technical boost to the country's first high-speed railway service.
