Renu Sangwan, a resident of Kharman village in Haryana, has scaled a business started with just nine cows to an annual turnover of over ₹3 crore. Demand for the desi ghee produced by her is seen in 15 countries today. She has faced numerous challenges on the path to this success, but today her dairy farm has transformed into a large and successful farm.
According to an Amar Ujala report, this business was started in 2016 by Renu Sangwan's husband, Krishna Kumar. He had started the dairy with nine cows in a home area of approximately 350 square yards. The primary objective behind this decision was to ensure that their son Vinay Sangwan, residing in Delhi, received quality milk and ghee, while also protecting the cows. However, the family faced difficult times following the death of Krishna Kumar in 2017.
Instead of giving up after her husband's demise, Renu Sangwan made her husband's dream her own mission. She carried forward the dairy business while managing the responsibility of two sons. Both her sons supported her in this journey. Her elder son assists with the work on the farm, while her younger son, Vinay Sangwan, is a veterinarian.
During the Corona period, when milk sales were halted, Renu Sangwan began making desi ghee using the 'Bilona' method. She promoted this ghee through social media. These efforts resulted in her receiving her first foreign order of 10 kg of ghee from America in 2021. Today, her business has expanded so extensively that she received orders for 300 kg of ladoos before Diwali.
The area of Renu Sangwan's dairy farm has now expanded from 350 square yards to approximately 4 acres. Currently, there are about 270 desi cows on her farm. The milk from her dairy farm is sold at a price of about ₹150 per litre, while the Bilona ghee prepared using Vedic methods is sold at approximately ₹3500 per kg.
She has also been honoured for her significant contribution to Gau-seva and the conservation of indigenous cow breeds. A few months ago, at a ceremony organised in the Dharmarth Gaushala located in Bhatgaon, Sonipat, the founder of Gokul Farm Kharman, Renu Sangwan, was conferred with the 'Sarvoccha Gau-seva Samman'. This honour was presented by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. Along with the honour, she was also presented with an amount of ₹51,000 and a memento.
By fulfilling the dream of her late husband Krishna Kumar, Renu Sangwan has transformed a small dairy into a large and successful farm today. This journey, which began with nine cows, has reached 300 cows and a business worth crores today.
