Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting and business solutions, and SASTRA University, located in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, have entered into a significant partnership. The two institutions have jointly launched the 'TCS-SASTRA Japan Technology Centre of Excellence' (CoE) at SASTRA University. The primary objective of this centre is to prepare students for Japan-centric technology roles and to create a steady pipeline of talented youth.
According to a BusinessLine report, the centre was inaugurated in the presence of K. Krithivasan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of TCS, and Dr. S. Vaidyanathan, Vice-Chancellor of SASTRA. The establishment of this centre is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between TCS and SASTRA University. The agreement aims to equip students with technology, language, and business skills relevant to the Japanese market.
This Centre of Excellence combines SASTRA University's academic excellence and Japanese language capabilities with TCS's technology, domain, and industry expertise. This will provide students with the opportunity to engage with industry experts and work on real-world problem statements and projects. The centre will provide training in Japanese language and cultural proficiency, enabling students to adapt easily to the Japanese working environment.
K. Krithivasan, CEO and MD of TCS, stated in a statement, “The IT services market in Japan is continuously growing. This is a clear opportunity for Indian talent to participate in Japan's technology growth story. Our partnership with SASTRA is a step in that direction. We are confident that this CoE will help prepare professionals who are equally skilled in Gen AI, Python, Playwright, and Pega, as well as the Japanese language, to meet the needs of this important market.”
On the other hand, Dr. S. Vaidyanathan, Vice-Chancellor of SASTRA, added, “This Indo-Japan CoE is in line with the diplomatic relations between India and Japan, which will enter its 75th year in 2027. SASTRA's contribution in preparing bilingual tech graduates will be very helpful in promoting bilateral trade and commerce. SASTRA and TCS ensure the bridging of the existing gap in this critical skill.”
Under this centre, students will receive not only language training but also multidisciplinary technical training. This includes subjects such as Java, Mainframe, .NET, Cloud, Google Cloud Platform, GenAI, Python, Playwright, and Pega. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to work on live projects, receive mentoring from TCS subject matter experts, and connect directly with TCS's Japan operations.
According to the BusinessLine report, TCS has formally established eight Centres of Excellence in institutions prioritizing fields including AI, Cyber Security, IoT, and Data. Through this initiative, TCS is bringing industry expertise closer to the classroom, allowing students to engage directly with real-world challenges and modern technology.
