According to a report by Amar Ujala, an important step has been taken towards the construction of the proposed four-lane bridge over the Ganga river between Kanpur and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has issued financial sanction of ₹232 crore for this important project. With this fund being released in the financial year 2026-27 under the Atal Industrial Infrastructure Mission, there is now full hope that this entire project will gain momentum. The construction of this new bridge and its approach road will make travel between Kanpur, Unnao and Transganga City very easy and smooth.
The total cost of this entire project has been fixed at ₹753.13 crore. Out of this determined amount, ₹460 crore will be spent by the state government and the remaining amount by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) from its own resources. During the financial year 2025-26, an approval of ₹460 crore had already been received from the government for this project, under which ₹90 crore was released as its first installment. Now, this financial sanction of ₹232 crore has been granted as part of the remaining funds and the second installment.
The approach of this proposed bridge will connect with the Bhairavghat-Dhobighat area of Kanpur, while on the other hand, an approach road up to Transganga City will be developed. The structure of this project will be Y-shaped. Under this scheme, there is a plan to build two separate two-lane bridges, through which traffic connectivity can be established at different locations in the city. The construction of this new bridge will provide direct connectivity between Kanpur and Unnao. Along with this, reaching Transganga City from Lucknow will also become much easier.
This construction work will provide major help in reducing the continuous heavy vehicular pressure on the Ganga Barrage. With the availability of excellent road connectivity, there is every possibility of promoting large-scale industrial investment in Transganga City. This will make the movement of raw materials for factories, transportation of finished goods as well as the movement of employees very easy. Consequently, along with the establishment of new industrial units, new employment opportunities may also be generated. It is estimated that about 10 lakh people will get major benefits from this entire project.
