A youth residing in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, has been allegedly recruited into the Russian army under the fraudulent pretext of securing employment in Russia and is now being sent to the battlefield on the Ukraine border. Regarding this incident, the youth's mother has made an emotional plea to the Central and State governments to bring her son back to India safely. According to a report by Amar Ujala, J. Vamsi, a resident of Visakhapatnam, had gone to Russia in search of employment, but it has emerged that he was cheated after reaching there.
Vamsi's mother, J. Appalakonda, providing details on the matter, stated that her son had gone with the intention of working in a fruit packing job in Russia. He expected to find fruit packing work there, but after reaching Russia, he was unable to secure any kind of job. During this difficult time, Vamsi met a Nepali national. This Nepali national gave Vamsi a firm assurance of securing a very high-paying job in Ukraine. Vamsi fell for these promises and proceeded further in Russia with that individual, but ultimately, he was inducted into the Russian army.
Due to the risk to her son's life and his absence, mother Appalakonda is extremely worried and distressed. At this critical time, she has appealed for help to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and IT Minister Nara Lokesh. Appalakonda stated very emotionally, "I only want my son back. I have nothing else. I don't want anything else, it is enough if my son just returns safely." She further stated that she has one son and one daughter in her family and her husband has also passed away, due to which her concern regarding her son's safety has increased further.
A video has also surfaced regarding this entire matter, in which a youth claiming to be Vamsi, along with four other Indians, is describing their difficulties. In this video, all the youths have clearly stated that they went to Russia for work, but they were cheated and recruited into the Russian army. Now they are being sent to the war front on the border between Russia and Ukraine. In the video, the youths said that they are currently in great danger and an unforeseen incident could happen to them at any time.
The youth claiming to be Vamsi also revealed an extremely serious matter in the video. According to him, he was not even aware that he had been given Russian citizenship. When he inquired about his citizenship, he was informed that he is no longer an Indian citizen but has become a Russian citizen. The youth emphatically said that he only wanted to retain Indian citizenship and had no interest in taking Russian citizenship. Had he known about this matter beforehand, he would never have agreed to it.
The youths also alleged that they were made to sign documents written in the Russian language. They had no understanding or knowledge of what was written in these documents. Due to not knowing the Russian language, they could not understand the meaning of the documents and now preparations are being made to send them to the battlefield. In the video, the youths stated in extreme panic that they do not know what will happen to them next, and they suspect that these might be the last words of their lives. All these youths have urged the Government of India to intervene immediately and bring them back home safely.
After this matter came to light, Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh has also expressed deep concern regarding this issue. Posting about this on the social media platform 'X', he stated that it is very painful to see the condition of Indians stranded abroad. Lokesh has directed his office to contact the concerned officials to take immediate steps in this matter and has given necessary instructions to help the affected people. Providing reassurance, he stated that all efforts will be made to ensure the safe and speedy return of these youths.
This incident is a major warning sign for Indians going to Russia for work, where youths are pushed into the battlefield through fraud in the name of employment. Currently, these youths are trapped in the dangerous area on the Russia-Ukraine border and are waiting for the intervention of the Government of India for their safety.
