Global investors and industry leaders gathered on the second day of the Bharat Renewable Energy (BRE) Summit and Expo 2026, held in New Delhi. The summit saw participation from representatives of over 130 countries, more than 40 ministers, senior policymakers, investors, financial institutions, and industry leaders. During the event, 13 states and union territories of the country showcased their renewable energy potential, project pipelines, manufacturing capabilities, and policy initiatives.
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, and Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Yesso Naik participated in 'The Next Terawatt' ministerial plenary. This high-level dialogue was organised by the International Solar Alliance (ISA), CEEW, and EnergyVa Ventures. The plenary aimed to prepare a roadmap for the international renewable energy implementation framework for the coming decades.
The discussions focused on four key priority areas for the expansion of renewable energy: integrated energy planning, supply and storage; expansion and resilience of energy infrastructure; terawatt-scale financing for projects and ecosystems; and digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for secure and affordable energy.
Significant news emerged for the state of Odisha during the summit. In the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Odisha signed 18 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with an estimated investment of ₹1.17 lakh crore. Additionally, Bondada Engineering Limited, part of the Bondada Group, signed an MoU with the Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (Goa-IPB), committing an investment of approximately ₹3,000 crore for renewable energy projects in Goa.
During a press conference, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that India is committed to advancing international solar cooperation and ensuring the equitable distribution of its benefits. He spoke of advancing this vision through the principle of 'One Sun, One World, One Grid' under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Joshi noted that India has been elected as the President of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) for the third consecutive time.
Joshi mentioned that India and France jointly established the ISA in 2015, which has today become a strong platform for Global South countries with 130 member nations. The BRE Summit and Expo 2026 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 2, 2026, and will conclude on November 5, 2026. The Minister stated that the primary objective of the discussions is to translate solar energy commitments into investments, partnerships into projects, and ambitions into concrete impact.
Speaking on financial cooperation, Joshi stated that the 200 million US dollar Africa Solar Facility is a significant step toward investing in Africa's decentralised renewable energy sector. India has a commitment of approximately ₹225 crore in this sector. Furthermore, the 300 million US dollar Nigeria Decentralised Renewable Energy Fund serves as an ideal example for expanding this model across the continent.
Providing information on the social impact of solar energy, Joshi stated that ISA-supported initiatives in Fiji, Madagascar, Comoros, and Seychelles demonstrate how solar energy can strengthen livelihoods through health facilities, electricity in schools, clean drinking water, and cold storage for agricultural produce. Starting from Mauritius, this integrated model is being utilised for Small Island Developing States.
Regarding the empowerment of farmers in India, the Minister stated that 30 lakh farmers have been empowered through solar energy. Through India's PM-KUSUM initiative, irrigation costs can be reduced and additional income opportunities can be created. Efforts are being made to adopt this model in African countries as well.
To increase national capacity, Joshi mentioned the establishment of 17 Solar Technology Application Resource Centres, the Global Capacity Centre-SHINE, and the AI-enabled ISA Academy. He added that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is bringing major changes to the economy, making access to affordable and reliable clean electricity strategically important.
Australia, Denmark, the European Union, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom are participating as 'Country Partners' in the summit, which will assist in technology and investment partnerships. Additionally, in a forum titled 'Watts Next: Innovators’ Ideas for India’s Energy Security, Agenda 2047', experts such as Sumant Sinha, Shreya Mishra, Girish R Tanti, Professor Ashok Junzunwala, and Meredith Annex presented views on technology and policy.
Present on the occasion were Secretary of MNRE Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Director General of ISA Ashish Khanna, France's Minister for Ecological Transition Mathieu Lefevre, Denmark's Minister Martin Lidegård, Suriname's Minister David Abiamofo, Seychelles' Minister Geralda Desobbin, and Sri Lanka's Minister of State for Energy Muhammad Arkam Elias.
The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is an international organisation established by India and France in 2015. Its primary objective is to promote the use of solar energy and increase cooperation for the implementation of solar energy among member countries. It serves as a significant global platform in the field of solar energy.
