Boating facilities for tourists in the Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary are likely to resume from 15 December. Gujarat Tourism Corporation Limited (GTCL) is making preparations to introduce approximately 200 new boats this month. To ensure the safety of tourists before commencing these services, 230 local water sports operators have been given special training in life-saving and water rescue operations.
The new boats are expected to arrive by the end of November. Following the arrival of the boats, the Forest Department will undertake the task of their distribution and allocation. This initiative has been undertaken with the aim of improving the tourism infrastructure and enhancing safety in Nal Sarovar, following the resumption of boating activities in Kankaria Lake.
In collaboration with the National Institute of Water Sports, GTCL organised a month-long training programme titled 'Life-Saving Techniques for Water Sports Operators' at the Nal Sarovar Complex from 4 October to 2 November. This training programme was conducted in five-day batches, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of water safety.
During the training, participants were instructed on identifying aquatic emergencies, rescuing drowning persons, swimming, lifeguard duties, and responding during emergencies. These sessions also included demonstrations and practical assessments of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.
So far this year, more than 15,877 visitors have visited the Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary. As an increase in the number of tourists and boating activities is expected, this training programme was organised to strengthen the emergency response capabilities of local operators and reduce the risk of accidents, ensuring a safe experience for visitors.
Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary is an important bird sanctuary in Gujarat, known for various types of migratory birds. It has remained a major attraction for nature lovers and bird watchers.
