The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today launched the 'Network Experience Platform'. This is a geospatial and analytical dashboard that will present user test data and TRAI's independent drive test data, while also providing a web interface for DND.
The platform includes test results obtained through MySpeed and MyCall apps, providing information on various network parameters to customers, service providers, and TRAI.
A key feature of this platform is its geospatial maps. Through these maps, customers will be able to learn about the experience of other users in a specific area. The platform reports percentile values based on tests conducted by users. However, these values are not a complete assessment of network quality based on a standardized methodology, but they provide useful information regarding the experience of other users at various locations. These maps also help in visualizing the results of independent drive tests.
Customers will now be able to report spam and test internet speeds. Aggregated results from TRAI apps, web interfaces, and independent drive tests will be available on the Network Experience Dashboard. Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) will be able to view data from call quality, coverage, and internet tests conducted by customers through a secure interface. This data includes location, date, time, and technical parameters, which will help TSPs identify geographical locations to improve the network. TRAI will be able to use this information for evidence-based monitoring of customer experience and to improve network performance.
The platform also includes the MySpeed SDK, which allows eligible third-party apps to connect with connectivity measurement capabilities. This will increase the volume of real-world measurements on the platform. Additionally, DND services are now available through a web interface. Customers can state their preferences for commercial communications, lodge complaints regarding unsolicited commercial communications, check the status of complaints, and view complaints as per the service provider.
On this occasion, TRAI Chairman Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti stated, "The Network Experience Platform will bring more transparency to the network tests conducted by customers and TRAI. It enables customers to analyse tests according to location and service provider, helps TSPs identify areas for network optimisation, and strengthens TRAI's efforts for network improvement."
TRAI has functioned as the primary body for the regulation of the telecom sector. Its main task is to formulate policies for the regulation of telecom services and the development of infrastructure.
